Alejandro Valverde Banned for 2 years

The ongoing battle of Valverde V’s CONI was ruled upon today, with the Italian anti-doping agency banning Alejandra for 2 years. It’s an Italy-only ban (at this stage), but with the 2009 Tour de France passing onto Italian soil, that means Valverde won’t be pinning a start number on this year. Unless the case gets over-ruled. Cycling News are reporting (but not linking) that belga news agency is reporting that the results for this test were only learned in December 2008.

Tom Boonen Out of 2009 Tour de France

Holy Mac! Tom Boonen is not riding this year’s Tour de France, banished after his second positive test for cocaine. The matter is not a performance enhancing issue, as the test was “out of competition”, but there are criminal implications as the drug is an illegal substance under Belgium law.

Holy Mac! Tom Boonen has been officially stood down by his Quickstep team. Boonen is “suspension from all competitive activity effective immediately.”
