The ongoing battle of Valverde V’s CONI was ruled upon today, with the Italian anti-doping agency banning Alejandra for 2 years. It’s an Italy-only ban (at this stage), but with the 2009 Tour de France passing onto Italian soil, that means Valverde won’t be pinning a start number on this year. Unless the case gets over-ruled. Saturday, May 9th, 2009Holy Mac! Tom Boonen is not riding this year’s Tour de France, banished after his second positive test for cocaine. The matter is not a performance enhancing issue, as the test was “out of competition”, but there are criminal implications as the drug is an illegal substance under Belgium law.
