Where Google Fails Badly

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

I’m trying to get a Google Map API for a website that uses Google Apps hosted mail. You would expect Google to recognise, and accept, a Google Apps hosted email address as a “Google” account, and authorise the API accourdingly. Wrong. In order to get the API, I have to create a new Google account, using the pre-existing Google Apps email address. What a joke.

That’s FailMail if you ask me. And just an absolute WAISTE of an email sign-up. The account will never be used, and Google is already HOSTING the entire company’s email. Why Google, why..?

The White Album Concert

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

The Beatles’ White Album is regarded as the greatest album ever made, by the greatest band to ever exist. Now that’s a BIG call. Whether you agree or disagree, it doesn’t change the fact that  Chris Cheney, Phil Jamieson, Josh Pyke and Tim Rogers are teaming up with a 17-piece band to this classic album back to life.

Touring Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne through early August, keep your eyes open for tickets sales which open on May 22nd.

HOLYmac! Michael Tomalaris is a big Twitter fan. HOLYmac! Michael Tomalaris is starting the ‘Mick for Pink‘ campaign tomorrow. ‘Mick for Pink’ refers to Michael Rogers’ quest to lead this year’s Girl d’Italia. He’s currently sitting in 3rd position, and being a multiple World Time Trial Champion, is a hot favourite for tomorrow’s 66km time trial.

Go Mick! Go Mike!

Postbox Email App

Postbox Email App

HOLYmac! Postbox is an email App that runs on both Mac & PC, and Beta 12 is available now as a free download. It’s a BIG download – 25mb – and will consume 85mb of your harddrive. So here’s hoping it’s a really big tool to add to ones’ Mac Toolbox. I’ll take it for a test run tomorrow, and see if it knocks Mailplane from my mantle.

You can download the free Beta via the Postbox website

FireFox 3 + WordPress Grief = Where are you Chrome for Mac?

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Since my last FireFox (for Mac) upgrade, to version 3.0.1, I’ve had to avoid the WordPress Admin panel like the Swine Flu. It crashes, it stalls, it gives me grief. Safari has become my WordPress Admin playground while I continue, and continue, and continue … (are you listening Google?) … to wait for Chrome for Mac. Come on Google Gods! Chrome for Mac won’t replace FireFox – there’s not ‘that’ level of extension yet, and I’m way to dependant on many FF AddOns  - but it will be used everywhere possible on this beloved Mac.

There’s been very few rumblings about Chrome for Mac in the media lately. I expect it we’ll just wake up one morning, and “BOOM!”, there it will be. Maybe that morning is tomorrow …?
